The Estepona City Council will commemorate International Book Day next Thursday, April 23, with a program of activities aimed at promoting reading.

The activities will begin at 12:00 noon at the Town Hall with the awards ceremony for the winners of the '5th Bookface Contest,' which celebrates the art of blending into a book cover. The jury will select the three best photographs, based on criteria such as creativity, technique, and originality. The winners will receive prizes of €150, €100, and €50, respectively.

On the other hand, at 5:30 p.m., the storytelling session "Stories to Love Books," led by teacher Vanessa López Morales, will take place in the 'Elvira Lindo' Children's Room of the Municipal Library. This family activity, in a welcoming space, is recommended for children between 3 and 8 years old and aims to foster a love of reading and books. Admission is free until capacity is reached. Through stories full of emotion, humor, and values, the audience will enjoy a participatory experience that transforms books into a shared family adventure.

In addition, the Library of Contemporary Cultures will host the Translation and Writing Workshop 'Before Reaching Your Hands' at 8:00 p.m., taught by translator Elías Ortigosa, with free attendance, prior registration at bcc@estepona.es

International Book Day is a commemoration celebrated every April 23rd worldwide, promoted by UNESCO since 1988, with the aim of promoting reading, the publishing industry and the protection of intellectual property through copyright.

It is a symbolic day for world literature, since on April 23, 1616, three great writers of world literature died: Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare, and Garcilaso de la Vega.
